The story begins with a flashback to 1980, where we see a young boy, Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn), being bullied by a group of older kids at Hawkins High School. Fast-forward to the present, and we find Eddie, now a senior, as the leader of the “Hellfire Club,” a Dungeons & Dragons group that meets in the school’s basement.

The episode picks up where season 3 left off, with Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and her friends dealing with the aftermath of the Battle of Starcourt.
