In the early 2000s, Sri Lanka was embroiled in a brutal civil war that had ravaged the nation for over a decade. The conflict between the government and the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) had resulted in significant loss of life, displacement of people, and destruction of infrastructure. The country was in dire need of a symbol of unity and peace.
In response to the prevailing situation, a group of visionary individuals, including artists, musicians, and social activists, came together to conceptualize an event that would bring people together and promote peace, love, and unity. Thus, the Walkatha 2002 was born. The event aimed to bring together people from all over the country, regardless of their ethnic, linguistic, or cultural backgrounds, to walk together in solidarity and promote a message of peace and reconciliation. wal katha 2002
